The Genders family winery and our McLaren Park vineyard are near the centre of the McLaren Vale township. McLaren Park is named from the adjacent historic recreation park. Our family have been here for over 60 years since my father Keith Genders purchased the vineyard in 1948.
I now do all the vineyard work except the pruning, which is conducted by the most accomplished pruners, who take the task very seriously. Having hand grown the grapes I then vinify the fruit in the true artisan way, largely unaided in the winery on site.
Each wine I produce is the result of an individual assessment of what the fruit of each different vintage offers, and how I can best use and capture its particular flavour profile. Having grown up on this vineyard I can compare its attributes with those I have experienced in many Australian and overseas winemaking regions. I strive for deft and minimal handling of the fruit and base blends, to create single site wines for individuality and unique flavour.
I release only mature wines following prolonged storage in the air-conditioned warehouse, and my wines will comfortably cellar from 5 to 15 years.
I hope that the flavours of McLaren Vale and the Genders distinctiveness shine through to provide an enjoyable and truly unique wine experience.
