The Bonking Frog (a.k.a. Western Banjo Frog) is a particularly noisy fellow who can be found in and around our vineyard. He is well known locally for his distinctive call, a loud BONK! While he is only one of many frogs found on our property, he attracts more attention than his quieter friends, and we felt as a small family owned winery we needed to follow his lead and ‘stand out from the crowd’.
There is also a sense of fun in being called Bonking Frog, as in our mind wine is about enjoyment – is there anything better than sharing good wine and good food with friends. On a serious note, we are working very hard to create a sustainable vineyard and are moving into bio-dynamic practices. Having so many frogs around means we must be doing something right.
We are unique in our region and I expect in many parts of Australia, as we grow only one variety – Merlot.
Why? Because we love it! What’s not to love about Merlot, soft velvety tannins, beautiful rich berry flavours?
We now produce four styles of Merlot and have introduced a white wine to our range
