In the heart of Soave, a little Medieval village surrounded by fascinating hills and protected by majestic Medieval walls, you can find the Cantina del Castello, overlooked by the ancient Scaligero castle.
Cantina del Castello is located in the Sanbonifacio Count’s Palace in Corte Pittora 5, a charming building whose origins date back to the XIII century.
Legend has it, that the tunnel located underneath the palace was once used as secret passageway to the castle itself. This is why the winery is known as Cantina del Castello, that means: the winery of the castle.
Today you can visit the entrance of the tunnel in the antique cellar, where the ageing process of the delicious sweet wine Recioto takes place.
The winery is a small company run by the family: this allows Arturo to carefully take care of all the stages of winemaking, from the vineyards to the bottle.
The company processes its own grapes Garganega and Trebbiano di Soave, hand-picked, whose roots are grounded in a volcanic soil, in 13 hectares of vineyards located on the hills of the Classico area.
In Autumn it’s enchanting to see the contrast between the black of the dark soil and the gold of the ripe grapes.
The average annual production is one hundred and thirty thousand bottles, which are the expression of different kinds of Soave Classico: Brut of Soave Classico, Soave Classico, Single Vineyards, Recioto of Soave Classico and Grappa of Recioto Skins.
Since the beginning, the Cantina del Castello has boasted a niche production of two reds from Valpolicella: the Amarone and the Ripasso. Eight thousand bottles are made every year.
A long standing experience and accurate work are the basis to produce these traditional fine wines.
