Free Tasting

Whirlwind Winery, located on the historic Main Street of downtown Watonga, is dedicated to producing quality Oklahoma wines. Whirlwind specializes in dry, Old-World style red wines, but also offers a variety of wines styles for any wine-lover, including our award winning “Honey-Apple” and local favorite “Wild Sand Plum”. The winemakers are proud vineyard owners and grape growers, ensuring that all the wines are made with fresh, locally grown grapes and fruit whenever possible. All but a scant few of the bottles produced at Whirlwind Winery carry an OKLAHOMA label appellation. This means you are drinking real Oklahoma wine, not wine produced from imported grapes, kits, or concentrates.

The winery building, once a turn-of-the-century bank, was recently restored from near dilapidation and is both tasting room and working winery. Visitors are amazed to see the building's antique tin ceiling and walk-in safe room with the original steel door. While there, you can often witness the winemaking process in varying stages and get insight into how fruit and grapes are transformed into wine. You will also be able to sample Whirlwind's selection of wines without charge, often with the winemakers themselves.

Whirlwind Winery is committed to supporting value-added agriculture, encouraging the cultural growth of western Oklahoma, and producing top quality Oklahoma wines. We invite you to join us in this fun and challenging endeavor.

About The Wines

Sweet Wines

Sweet Fay Rose’ - 2010 – Sweet Rose’ Wine - $16.00 plus tax
The Flagship of Whirlwind since 2005, this wine has consistently been our most popular. A "white" blend of our red grape varieties, you can count on this wine to be smooth, sweet, and delicious.

Sweet Sandbur Red – 2010 – Sweet Red Wine - $12.00 plus tax *Special - Two for $20.00 plus tax
Another of our popular wines, the "Sandbur Red" is a sweetened, light-bodied Sangiovese. This is one for the sweet wine drinker that likes a bit more intensity.

Mead and Fruit Wines

Honey-Apple – 2012 – Off Dry Mead & Apple Wine Blend - $17.00 plus tax
Our most versatile and interesting meal wine, not too sweet and not too dry. The earthy mead with the fruity apple bring a wonderful contrast to the dinner table.

Wild Sand Plum – Sweet Fruit Wine - $18.00 plus tax
Made from real wild fruit, you're not going to get a wine more local than this. Both sweet and tart, this wine evokes the taste of a ripe Sand Plum fresh off the brush - with a little punch.

Dry Wines

Romance - 2012 - Dry Rose'- $16.00 plus tax
An unsweetened version of our immensely popular Sweet Fay Rose', this wine goes down as easy as a Sunday morning. Drink it well-chilled on a hot summer evening with friends and sweethearts.

Stiletto 2009 – Dry Red Wine - $12.50* *Special - Two for $20.00 plus tax
A "Bordeaux Blend" of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot & Cabernet Franc, this wine is quaintly Old-World with a delightful nose, medium body, sleek and simple dryness.
Pairs well with Watonga Cheddar Cheese and pasta dishes.

Cabernet Sauvignon - 2009 - Dry Red Wine - $13.50 plus tax
A medium-bodied Cab with dry tannins and fruity over-tones. (Un-oaked)

Cynthiana - 2010 - Dry Red Wine - $15.00 plus tax
Made from the American grape (aka Norton), this wine has a deep, rich color that belies smooth tannins and subtle flavors. Similar to Cabernet Sauvignon without the hard edges. (un-oaked) (very limited)
