Alvear is the oldest winery in Andalusia, founded in 1729 by Don Diego de Alvear y Escalera. Eight generations later, the family business owns 300 hectares of vineyards where the pedro ximenez grapes grow in the best production area of Montilla.
The winery offers a charming visit in which one can enjoy the grape press, fermentation room and the bodega where the wines are aged. There is also a sampling of wines with an explanation of their characteristics and proper tasting methods.
Among the many awards and distinctions, is the most current that Robert Parker has awarded the PX Harvest 2011, also highlights the Award for "Best Tourist Company 2008" from Cordoba.
Tasting of three wines:
Fino C.B. (Dry wine), perfect as a chilled aperitif with tapas, snacks, fried fish, Sushi.
Alvear Pale Cream (slightly sweet), perfect with fresh fruit,. Ideal as an aperitif or after- dinner. Try it with Indian food.
Pedro Ximénez 1927 (sweet), perfect with dessert or toopong icecream, fruit-salads and pastries or with blue cheese.
